Closet featured in 201 Magazine!

Tuesday, April 10th, 2018

I am so thrilled that 201 Magazine picked up my closet space story in their April issue .

ARTICLE:
Favorite part of your closet: the whole space!

What was the design inspiration (a place, color scheme, favorite clothing item, etc.)?
The room used to be a small bedroom which I converted into my walk-in closet/atelier or design studio for my jewelry business. Since this was to be my own little magic haven, I had the freedom to express my feminine and girly sense of style with an updated, modern spin. The floral wallpaper brightens the room with its flirty pink jewel tones, while the avant-garde brass spike chandelier adds that contemporary edginess to the space.

What was a must-have feature to the space?
The Wallpaper. It set the tone for my inspiration and it was the perfect backdrop to make the room playful and romantic.

Most prized item(s) located in your closet?
The bow knob accents I added to the drawers. Initially I was concerned that it would be too “childish”    (after all they were featured in a nursey room décor), but I adore them! I enjoy incorporating fun elements to my designs and the bow knobs add the perfect dose of cuteness. They make me smile every time I use them. In the end, I think it complements the whole aesthetic of the room perfectly.

Can you estimate how many shoes are in your closet?
I can fit up to 35 pairs of shoes in this space. But I have to confess I have an additional shoe closet in the mudroom …you know for convenience sake.

Any unique features to the space?
This space also functions as my home office. I am a graphic designer by day and jewelry designer by night (and dream about being an interior designer!). After the kids go to bed, this is where you will find me, catching up on my Netflix, or listening to audiobooks while bringing my jewelry designs to life.

What piece of clothing or accessory did you need the most space for?
Cocktail dresses! I have a weakness for chic, party dresses. I love getting dolled up!

What was the best shopping “find” you added to your space/incorporated into the design?
I purchased the Venzia Dressing Mirror for more than 50% off the original price. It adds such a charming sense of sophistication to the room. And who doesn’t love a great bargain?

How much time do you spend in your closet (when do you spend time in this space)?
A lot. It’s become more than a dressing room. It’s turned into my little sanctuary – a place where I have ME time, where I can relax and where I can have my creativity run free.

Any advice?
When designing a space, choose pieces that are practical yet comfortable.  Take your time and take pleasure in picking out the details.  Accessories should be whimsical, quirky and sentimental to you. It’s not about perfectly matching high end pieces together, but being creative with the high & the low, the cheap & the chic, the old & the new.  A space should look like the person that lives in it, not a catalog, not what you think others would like —but reflects your true personality. Most importantly have fun designing or putting together your room. I believe in having fun. Like, a lot of fun.

Workshop day

Friday, March 16th, 2018

I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to design our new sanctuary room in our new church building we are about to move in next week. It’s been a great learning experience for me as I’ve never done anything like this before. I just kept hoping and praying that I don’t mess anything up along the way. I’m so thankful for the great support, help, and encouragement by my church during this process.

I got to work with our very own carpenter Gary to design this cross and I am just so thrilled.

Today I got to go to his workshop to help build stage walls. Had a blast working with him and his wife. Look at this cute couple!

I learned how to use staple gun. 🙂

closing a chapter…

Wednesday, February 28th, 2018

Today I closed a chapter in my life. I resigned from my job after working full-time for 13+ years as a director/designer. It was a tough decision that I struggled with and prayed about for several months and after going through all kinds of emotions, I finally decided to let it go… This was a choice we made as a family when we decided to “simplify” our lives. As much as I would like to think I was good at balancing my kids and my career, the truth was, I was not… I was too busy, doing too many things and was always on the go, rushing my kids along. I chose to take a few steps back and reprioritize my life. It’s nerve-wracking to think that I’m letting go of a career I’ve been building for 21 years, but I came to realize the most important job I needed to be best at is being a mom and a wife.
I have been so blessed to do what I love for a living and met so many wonderful people in my industry who became my closest friends. As much as I’m sad, I’m also excited to relax a little, spend more quality time with my family and most excited about driving kids to school in my pjs tomorrow morning!

I’ll miss this place…

Celebratory lunch with my co-workers. Cheers!
I’ll be working with them as a consultant. 😉

Chloe’s first piano recital

Saturday, February 24th, 2018

She was a little bit nervous to perform but she did really well. Well done!

diy vanity

Saturday, February 3rd, 2018

I purchase this sad old desk from an antique store for $15 and I sanded it down and gave a fresh coat of paint. Then I put this venetian mirror I bought from another antique store in Montclair for $75.  The ottoman is a purchase I made from Caitlin Wilson 8 weeks ago that finally arrived.

Inspiration rooms

Love this blanket I purchased for the Hygge themed room.

I was very proud of what I accomplished…then there’s always that nonsense labor I had to do as part of being a “team player” such as this:

Biz trip

Saturday, January 27th, 2018

Back in Florida for my annual business trip. I do love coming here but it’s always very intense and I leave feeling so beat.

This picture do not reflect how my day was. 😉 I just took this picture to send it to my family, ha! Probably only 5 sec. I got to relax at 7 a.m.  before the mayhem happened.

Holiday Lunch

Monday, December 18th, 2017

I’m having a holiday lunch with my team in the city today. So we headed out early and made stops at Brookfield Place to check out Luminaries and Oculus Mall to check out the Winter ONEderland.

So excited to go up!

A Typical Work Day

Our team got together for a group photo and we pretend to have a Christmas story time. What Fun!

Oh and it was a ugly sweater day. 😉

Holiday Pop-Up at Work

Friday, December 15th, 2017

One of the trends we are going to see in 2019 is Hygge trend. So we put together this pop-up area for presentations and meetings and also so we can hang out. 🙂

Candle submission that I designed with the team.
