Closet featured in 201 Magazine!

I am so thrilled that 201 Magazine picked up my closet space story in their April issue .

ARTICLE:
Favorite part of your closet: the whole space!

What was the design inspiration (a place, color scheme, favorite clothing item, etc.)?
The room used to be a small bedroom which I converted into my walk-in closet/atelier or design studio for my jewelry business. Since this was to be my own little magic haven, I had the freedom to express my feminine and girly sense of style with an updated, modern spin. The floral wallpaper brightens the room with its flirty pink jewel tones, while the avant-garde brass spike chandelier adds that contemporary edginess to the space.

What was a must-have feature to the space?
The Wallpaper. It set the tone for my inspiration and it was the perfect backdrop to make the room playful and romantic.

Most prized item(s) located in your closet?
The bow knob accents I added to the drawers. Initially I was concerned that it would be too “childish”    (after all they were featured in a nursey room décor), but I adore them! I enjoy incorporating fun elements to my designs and the bow knobs add the perfect dose of cuteness. They make me smile every time I use them. In the end, I think it complements the whole aesthetic of the room perfectly.

Can you estimate how many shoes are in your closet?
I can fit up to 35 pairs of shoes in this space. But I have to confess I have an additional shoe closet in the mudroom …you know for convenience sake.

Any unique features to the space?
This space also functions as my home office. I am a graphic designer by day and jewelry designer by night (and dream about being an interior designer!). After the kids go to bed, this is where you will find me, catching up on my Netflix, or listening to audiobooks while bringing my jewelry designs to life.

What piece of clothing or accessory did you need the most space for?
Cocktail dresses! I have a weakness for chic, party dresses. I love getting dolled up!

What was the best shopping “find” you added to your space/incorporated into the design?
I purchased the Venzia Dressing Mirror for more than 50% off the original price. It adds such a charming sense of sophistication to the room. And who doesn’t love a great bargain?

How much time do you spend in your closet (when do you spend time in this space)?
A lot. It’s become more than a dressing room. It’s turned into my little sanctuary – a place where I have ME time, where I can relax and where I can have my creativity run free.

Any advice?
When designing a space, choose pieces that are practical yet comfortable.  Take your time and take pleasure in picking out the details.  Accessories should be whimsical, quirky and sentimental to you. It’s not about perfectly matching high end pieces together, but being creative with the high & the low, the cheap & the chic, the old & the new.  A space should look like the person that lives in it, not a catalog, not what you think others would like —but reflects your true personality. Most importantly have fun designing or putting together your room. I believe in having fun. Like, a lot of fun.
