Final destination – Busan Metropolitan city

Tuesday, July 17th, 2018

We arrived at our final destination, a place I have a fond memory of. When I was in college I came to visit my parents in Korea and we stayed here that summer.

Busan is South Korea‘s second most popular city after Seoul, with a population of over 3.5 million inhabitants- only about 120 miles from the Japanese islands of Kyushu and Honshu

Our hotel is located right in front of Haeundae Beach.

After dinner Chloe and I came out to check out the night scene.

Gimbop & honey bread

Tuesday, July 17th, 2018

As our journey continues and we do have a quiet some time on the bus. Kids are good at entertaining themselves.

Can’t forget the sunscreen in-between the stops.

Our next destination brings us to a famous fish market

This town is known for Honey bread (? ?) and where Chungmu Gimbap (????), which is Shane’s favorite kind of Gimbap, originated from!

He had two servings by himself. Whoa.

Today’s lunch special: Sea Squirt

We’re on our way to the top of Mireuksan Mountain, one of Korea’s top 100 mountains to visit. Hallyeosudo Viewing Ropeways is the only dual-cable automatic circulating gondola in Korea. At 1,975 meters long, it is the longest ropeway in the nation.

Learning about the history…

Tuesday, July 17th, 2018

During this trip, we learned so much about Admiral Yi Sun-sin who was a Korean naval commander famed for his victories against the Japanese navy during the Imjin war in the Joseon Dynasty.

Admiral Yi Sun Shin designed and developed Turtle ships to fight against Japanese navy in the Seven Years’ War (1592-1598).The Japanese used ship-to-ship boarding combat as their preferred tactic, in addition to cannon and other artillery. The Geobukseon were clad in iron plates and the topmost decks featured a roof covered in iron and metal spikes – making boarding a difficult task.
