Learning about the history…

Tuesday, July 17th, 2018

During this trip, we learned so much about Admiral Yi Sun-sin who was a Korean naval commander famed for his victories against the Japanese navy during the Imjin war in the Joseon Dynasty.

Admiral Yi Sun Shin designed and developed Turtle ships to fight against Japanese navy in the Seven Years’ War (1592-1598).The Japanese used ship-to-ship boarding combat as their preferred tactic, in addition to cannon and other artillery. The Geobukseon were clad in iron plates and the topmost decks featured a roof covered in iron and metal spikes – making boarding a difficult task.

Hidden gems in Namhae

We visited German Village & Horticultural Art Village

When we entered the garden, I was amazed by the landscape and the plants decorated in the garden. You can find different  unique themed house,  gardens, fountains, observation decks, green houses, etc.

A famous Korean actress’s café

The German village houses a museum where we learnt a bit about the sacrifices of the Koreans who moved to Germany to work in order to build up their country. In the 1960s ,the German village was built to help Korean miners and nurses who worked in Germany to adjust and relocate back in Korea. Now, the village has transformed into a tourist spot and provides all visitors an authentic German experience. What a beautiful story.

Today’s lunch special: Grilled Eel

I don’t really love eel, but this was pretty delicious.

Onto our next destination!

Odongdo Island

Monday, July 16th, 2018

Odongdo is a small island which is connected to Yeosu Expo Park by the bridge. The forest on the island, a dancing fountain, and Dragon cave are what the island is known for.

We walked through bamboo lined forest.

Light house on top of the hill.

Sweating bullets… but still nothing but smiles from these kids. I’m just so proud of them for enjoying this tour and enduring this sweltering heat.

Kids got a kick out of this one.

I can’t really see it…

Got on a small train bus to leave the island.

We arrived in Yeosu for dinner. It is a port city on South Korea’s East China Sea coast.

View from our hotel room.

Suncheon Bay Wetland Reserve

Sunday, July 15th, 2018

Our next stop is Suncheon. It is a city in South Jeolla Province,  a scenic agricultural and industrial city

We spent about 2 hours enjoying the reserve by doing the walk along the boardwalk through the reeds.

Beautiful boardwalks through the reeds despite the blazing sun.

So peaceful…

We saw crabs and mudskippers on a mud or climbing up grasses.

We rushed into a cafe to cool off. It is H O T.
