Tough Cookie

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Chloe was sick the last three days with a runny nose, fever of 102º, stomach problems, and also teething. On Saturday morning she woke up around 5 a.m. and seemed to be better, but after a few hours later, she was getting cranky and tired so I put her to bed for an early morning nap. She woke up around noon SCREAMING and CRYING. She cried when I held her, she cried when I offered her food, she cried when I sang, and there was nothing we could do to stop her from crying. When her crying lasted more than an hour, we started to get worried and called her doctor. He advised me to give her 2.5 ml of infant Motrin and if she still had not calmed down after 45 mins, we would have to take her to an emergency room for examinations . I started to PANIC! We just ran out of Motrin so Andrew ran to a pharmacy while I stayed with Chloe who was still screaming… She was very thirsty and kept asking for water. After getting up and down several times to get her cup of water, I got her a new bottle of water. As soon as I said “be careful not to spill, honey”, she grabbed the bottle and S P R A Y E D all over across the living room! That’s when I knew she was just misbehaving. It was time to bring out Nanny 911 in me!

Andrew sometimes complains about my disciplining ability to Chloe. He thinks I don’t. AT ALL. The truth is, he’s right. I let her get away with a lot of things because I really can’t bring myself to be upset by her. I always take her side and understand her point of view, which is filled with curiousity . When she makes a mess of things, I let her, which is so surprising to Andrew because he thinks I’m a neat freak. Anyway, this time it was a different story. She crossed the line. It was MY time to be authoritative and be her boss! I showed her. Since I hardly get upset at her or show my angry side to Chloe, she responded almost immediately. She stopped her crying and calmed down.

Andrew walks in and sees Chloe sitting quietly next to me, gently leaning against me. He looked so surprised…
“Dude, what did you do??”

Chloe was back to her sweetness for the rest of the afternoon.

Hi, neighbor!

4th of July-Grilling!

Andrew surprised us with a couple of porterhouse steaks so we decided to have a bbq in our backyard. Chloe drank the whole cup of fresh mint lemonade and that was mostly her lunch. She’s been eating less and less these days. I try not to force her to eat but I’m getting little bit worried since she’s been a such good eater up to now. She loves to snack though. She’ll take my hands to the kitchen and points to the cabinet where I store her snack and demands, “Kka-ka! Kka-ka!” (which means snack).
This evening we’ve been looking forward to taking Chloe to the fireworks so we made her stay up until almost 9 o’clock. But it started to rain while we were driving so we decided to come back home and Chloe said, “be-oh-i” again! To Andrew’s much relief, (he was freaked out thinking she was saying BOY last week), we finally figured out that she was saying “비 와” which means it’s raining!!! Doh! It’s been raining so much these days, I guess I was saying that a lot. 🙂

Good Memories

I didn’t really expect much, but this turned out to be one of the best trips we have taken as a family. Chloe got to experience a lot of new things like the beach, swimming in the pool, fresh sea food, and lots of junk food such as French fries, ice cream, potato chips, etc… We also discovered new things about Chloe too. We knew she was outgoing but seeing her wave her hand to everyone she saw on the street more than confirmed that notion. Everyone stopped by and said hi to my little girl. Also, when she saw babies on the street, she went right up to them, gave them hugs, and even patted them on the back (although Andrew is a little worried because the two times she did this they were both boys). She’s also been mumbling “be-o-why, be-oh-i”… it sounds like B O Y?? Of course, Andrew made that connection first.

Picnic on the Beach

Friday, June 27th, 2008

After a full day of swimming in the pool, Chloe was too tired to be at a restaurant. So we took our dinner to the beach.

Rehoboth Beach

This was Chloe’s first time in the beach and she LOVED it! I mean she’s only one and a half year old but this girl is fearless. She kept yelling “WOH, WOH” every time waves came crashing in. She wanted to stay there forever. When we took her out of the water, she cried.
